Meadows Behavioral Healthcare Training
From August 25 to August 27, 2023, Latia Parker and Tamika Lipsey, both clinicians at Betty Jackson Counseling Services, attended intensive training at the Meadows Treatment Center.
The program was led by Resmaa Menakem, a renowned therapist, trauma specialist, and founder of Justice Leadership Solutions, who is highly regarded for his work on racialized trauma. The training focused on equipping clinicians with advanced strategies to address and treat racialized trauma in their practice.
Menakem, author of the New York Times bestseller *My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies*, emphasized the importance of creating an embodied, anti-racist culture that fosters healing. "Part of what I’ve been trying to help people do is to begin to develop with other bodies what I call a living embodied and anti-racist culture and practices, so those things that could emerge as healing have a place to sprout up from," Menakem explained. His expertise in guiding leaders through civil unrest, organizational change, and community building has made him a sought-after speaker, with appearances on *The Oprah Winfrey Show* and *Dr. Phil* as an expert on conflict and violence.
